3-D Printing: 3-D Printing Policy

3-D PRINTING POLICY

  • All colors/ materials will be charge $.06 per gram. There is a minimum $.25 charge. 
  • Requests will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. However, prints intended for academic use will be given priority.
  • There is no limit for academic/research-related prints. However, there is a limit of five personal prints per month.
  • Each project can consist of up to 10 job files.
  • Files must be available in stereolithography (.stl) format.
  • Library staff are not responsible for correcting 3-D design files, and some files are too complicated to print.
  • Prints are limited based on size, time and resources.
  • For safety reasons, printers will only run when a library staff member is present.
  • The library staff will accommodate color preference to the best of their ability, but will choose the color based on the need of the print. Different filaments serve different purposes, and the library does not have every color in every filament.
  • The library’s 3-D printing service is designed for rapid prototyping, not production. Requests for multiple copies of the same file will not be accepted.
  • The library’s 3-D printing may only be used for lawful purposes. No material will be created if it is:
    • Prohibited by law
    • Unsafe, harmful or dangerous, or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others
    • A firearm or any other weapon
    • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment
    • In violation of another’s intellectual property rights, including copyright (Title 17, U.S. Code) and patent law (Title 35, U.S. Code). This includes items misrepresenting TTUHSC, TTU, or TTUHSC El Paso. 

TTUHSC El Paso library staff reserve the right to decline any 3-D print requests for any reason.
